Spring Cleaning Series: The best way to wash your makeup brushes
What you’ll need:
- Dirty makeup brushes
- Shampoo
- Lukewarm water
- A cup
- Sunlight
How it works:
Step 1. Pour about 2 teaspoons of shampoo into a cup, add water and stir to combine.
Step 2. Submerge the bristles of your brush into the shampoo mixture and twist the brush back and forth so the bristles spread out and the shampoo can get in there and clean! Then gently mash the bristles on the bottom of the glass to get rid of any stubborn makeup.
Step 3. Throw away the dirty shampoo mix then rinse the brush under running warm water to make sure there is no shampoo is left in there. Continue doing this until the water runs clear.
Step 4. Repeat the above steps to all of your grubby brushes.
Step 5. To dry your brushes, give your brushes a flick to get rid of extra water {this just makes it quicker for your brushes to dry} then place them laying horizontally in direct sunlight.

Why horizontally? Because if you dry them vertically with the bristles facing up the water can run down and damage the glue that hold the bristles in place and it can also rot the inside of your wooden handles.
Why direct sunlight? The sunlight is the gentlest and most effective way to dry the brushes. Also sunlight naturally kills bacteria, just in case the shampoo missed any ;)
